Psalm 146:3 (ESV)

3 Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.

The author calls out to not place your trust in prominent people. Looking at the verb trust, one must think of safety while travelling or safety at home. The prominent people are those leaders who look after the people’s well-being, safety, and justice.

It seems as if Psalm 146:3a takes as starting point a normal, quiet situation, where people from their own nation are the leaders. Psalm 146:3b seems to be a repeat of Psalm 146:3a, but it can also be seen as a reason for Psalm 146:3a: “Do not trust in princes, for with princes there is no…” The reason that you cannot expect a person to rescue you, or at least, you cannot be certain that they can save, is because human rescuers often fail. The word that is used for rescue is deliverance from danger or from a precarious situation. However, it can also relate to godly salvation. Surely in light of the New Testament, this notion may be considered.
