1. Psalm 146:1–10 (ESV)
  2. Christocentric focus

Christ as blessing, hope and King

Psalm 146:1–10 (ESV)

1 Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul!

In this psalm, there are several possibilities to draw the line to Christ. We mention three separate possibilities.

  • Following Psalm 146:5. One should read this with Genesis 28:14 (NIV). In the dream, God promises to be there for Jacob. All nations will be blessed in Jacob’s seed (offspring). This points to Jesus Christ, the greatest blessing for all mankind.

  • Following Psalm 146:7–8. Jesus opened the eyes of the blind (Matthew 11:2–6; for the freeing of the prisoners, see Luke 4:18–19). Following these verses from Psalm 146, together with the verses from Matthew and Luke, we see that even though God sometimes lets his children go on difficult paths and he does not always meet their desires, his kingdom does continue. That was the answer which had to be sufficient for John the Baptist (Matthew 11:2–6).

  • Following Psalm 146:10. This verse especially looks toward Jesus Christ—the eternal King of the church.
