In an attempt to save herself from trouble, Michal pretended as if her life was threatened by David.1 She lied to her father by telling him that David would have killed her if she did not go through with the pretence. Her lie would provide her father with a motive for continuing to hunt David.2 It also explains why she was married to another man in David’s absence (see 2 Samuel 3:14–16).
17 Saul said to Michal, “Why have you deceived me thus and let my enemy go, so that he has escaped?” And Michal answered Saul, “He said to me, ‘Let me go. Why should I kill you?’”
