It is not clear if Saul stripped off all his clothing or only his outer garments. In either case, the removal of his garments relates to his kingly office and status. With these garments being removed we have another confirmation that he was not fit to serve as Israel’s king.1
24 And he too stripped off his clothes, and he too prophesied before Samuel and lay naked all that day and all that night. Thus it is said, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”
