Psalm 19:11 (ESV)

11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.

The first Hebrew word here, “gam,” is not so easy to translate. Also is too weak of a translation. The ESV translation moreover reflects well that the author seriously intends to be persuaded by God’s commandments. Therefore, he also refers to himself as your servant.

The verb “zahar” can be translated shine and being forewarned. It seems that the author consciously wants to draw a connection with the intense shining of the sun (Psalm 19:4b–Psalm 19:5–6) when he speaks about God’s commandments. His desire is that the bright light of God’s law penetrates into his everyday life. He desires that even more, because he knows that those who live before God’s face in this way will be richly blessed—and not only after this earthly life, but already in the present life.
