With David’s prayer to the Lord, a legal case had been opened between him and Saul—a case in which the Lord had to adjudicate. One that would be concluded with the death of Saul (1 Samuel 31:1–13) and David’s rise to the throne of Israel (2 Samuel 4:8; 2 Samuel 5:5).1
