The term is used to describe the reproach, mocking, or reviling one receives (for whatever reason). The Gospels use this same word to describe Jesus’ suffering on Good Friday (Matthew 27:44; Mark 15:32; see also Hebrews 13:13). Since it is used for Jesus, it is fitting that Peter uses this same word to describe what happens to those who follow the Christ.
14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.
