1. 1 Peter 4:16 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why does Peter add the words “in that name”?

1 Peter 4:16 (ESV)

16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.

Peter upon his arrest, imprisonment, and scourging could not stand tall by drawing on strength found within himself or focusing on the injustice of the moment. Rather, he openly and explicitly leaned on Jesus Christ as the source of his strength and courage. So the name of Christ (he is a “Christian,” a follower of Christ) receives the glory.
