This vulnerable flock belongs to God (1 Peter 1:1–2; 1 Peter 2:9, etc.). The fact that this flock belongs to God is precisely the reason why it attracts the hatred of God’s enemies (John 15:18–25). It’s also the reason why this flock is worth protecting—indeed, why God himself (through Peter) instructs elders to “shepherd” this flock.
