Those who have donned the garment of humility (and hence serve one another) receive “grace” from God. Peter has mentioned this “grace” several times in his letter already (1 Peter 1:2, 1 Peter 1:10, 1 Peter 1:13; 1 Peter 2:19–20; 1 Peter 3:7; 1 Peter 4:10). The term refers to the undeserved kindness of God, the fullness of which the child of God receives in the New Jerusalem. Though today the Christian may need to suffer (as Peter has drawn out extensively in this letter), he may be confident that in God’s time, he will receive the imperishable inheritance—including seeing the demise of every Pharaoh
around him.
5 Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
