1. 1 Samuel 25:26 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What did Abigail mean when she said that David’s enemies and all those who sought to do evil to him should be like Nabal?

1 Samuel 25:26 (ESV)

26 Now then, my lord, as the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, because the LORD has restrained you from bloodguilt and from saving with your own hand, now then let your enemies and those who seek to do evil to my lord be as Nabal.

It appears as if Abigail was certain that her husband Nabal would come to some harm as a result of his sinful refusal to help David. In light of this conviction, she assured David that the Lord would bring justice and vindicate him against those who sought to do him wrong. The enemies of the Lord’s anointed will be destroyed (see Psalm 2:6–9).
