In Joshua 9:17 we are explicitly told that the people of Gibeon lived in four cities: Gibeon, Kephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath-jearim. The city of Gibeon itself was about five miles west from Bethel and they would eventually be given to the tribe of Benjamin (Joshua 18:25–28) with the city of Gibeon itself becoming a Levitical city (Joshua 21:17; see also Leviticus 25:32–33). The Gibeonite towns were all clustered five to ten miles northwest of Jerusalem.
