The Sharon Plain is just between the coast and the foothills of western Israel. It was a very fertile area that was probably well known for its wildflowers.1 The English word rose in this verse is probably not correct because roses were not found in Israel at this time.2 The young woman is most likely thinking of the wildflowers that grew naturally in the area. Similar to her hesitant description of her beauty in Song of Solomon 1:5 she seems to pay herself a slight compliment. She is like a flower, but a common one, one among thousands.3
