God’s intent in causing Peter’s readers to hear the gospel and believe it was that they might inherit the blessed benefits of Christ’s resurrection from the dead (1 Peter 1:4–5), an inheritance that would be fully made theirs when Christ appears on the last day (1 Peter 1:7, 1 Peter 1:13; 1 Peter 4:13; 1 Peter 5:1). Jesus had suffered for sin in order that those whom the Father had given him (= the “elect,” 1 Peter 1:1) might share Christ’s glory (John 17:24). Peter’s readers were among those who heard the gospel and believed it, and so they share that wonderful glory.
10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
