At the end of Peter's first letter, he ties up the fitting reaction his readers are to have to their suffering. As persons born again
(1 Peter 1:3) they will be misunderstood by those in their community who are not (yet) spiritually born, and so distrusted, treated as aliens and exiles (1 Peter 2:11). Instead of resisting the inevitable suffering, they should humble themselves under God’s mighty hand in the awareness that they are perfectly safe with him no matter their discomforts. Peter’s reference to Psalm 55:22 shows the way in how to respond to even loved ones turning against you.
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,
