Now the praise is focusing on God’s own people again. In the preceding part it was about the word of the Lord by which he reigns over everything. In this verse it is about the Word of the Lord that he speaks to his people. At the time that this Psalm was written, the Israelites of the Old Testament were the only ones who knew how God had to be worshipped. What a privilege! But also, what a responsibility, for you must respond positively to the Word of God! Compare this with Romans 3:2 and Romans 3:9.
In today’s world this means that those who know about God’s Word having become flesh (John 1:14)—Jesus Christ—have the responsibility to react positively to the gospel.
19 He declares his word to Jacob, his statutes and rules to Israel.
