This angel had said in Revelation 21:9 that he could show John “the Bride, the wife of the Lamb.” In the following verses we hear no further words from the angel. Yet in the present verse the Greek behind the word translated as “spoke” indicates ongoing speech. We are left to conclude that the angel was verbally drawing John’s attention (“I will show”) to particular elements of the city. These elements, clearly, were significant.
