The Lord had promised Noah that day and night would never cease (Genesis 8:22), that is, in the evening the sun would set and in the morning rise again (Genesis 1:1–31). But in the New Jerusalem, the glory of God would be constant, that is, he would never depart or retire, and so his overwhelming light would overcome whatever effect there might be of the sun not shining due to nightfall. Thus, there will be no night. The consequence is that the business of the city—its traffic and trade—can continue without interruption.
25 and its gates will never be shut by day and there will be no night there.
