What God says must be what our hearts want to receive. Micah hired a certain minister of the Lord’s word, a wandering, aimless Levite, just looking for work somewhere. Even at a pagan shrine. Micah gets someone who will do whatever Micah says, will say whatever Micah wants to hear. Someone who will tickle Micah’s itching ears, to use the word of Paul (2 Timothy 4:3). What kind of preaching are you looking for? Preaching that gives you what you think should be said, or what the Lord wants you to hear through those called to study and teach the Scriptures? May it be that you desire preaching that gives the fullness of God’s Word, which tells you things you often don’t want to hear but need to, so that you are always confronted with your constant need for Christ and his gospel, in order to grow in conformity to him.
7 Now there was a young man of Bethlehem in Judah, of the family of Judah, who was a Levite, and he sojourned there.
