Christ redeemed God’s people from the curse of the law (judgment/death) by going through the curse in their place.1 When Jesus was crucified, he paid the penalty that believers deserve for their sin (Isaiah 53:4–6).2 As testimony to the fact that he faced God’s judgment/wrath against sin, he was hung on a tree.3 Being nailed to a cross and condemned to shame,4 publicly attested that Jesus Christ was under God’s curse.
13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”
