1. Leviticus 20:27 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

How do these verses apply to the New Testament believer?

Leviticus 20:27 (ESV)

27 “A man or a woman who is a medium or a necromancer shall surely be put to death. They shall be stoned with stones; their blood shall be upon them.”

The major point of this section is the punishment that follows disobedience to God’s law. As sinful human beings, we all break the law of God and are deserving of his judgment. The Westminster Confession of Faith (6.6) frames it in this way, Every sin, both original and actual, being a transgression of the righteous law of God, and contrary thereunto, doth, in its own nature, bring guilt upon the sinner, whereby he is bound over to the wrath of God, and curse of the law, and so made subject to death, with all miseries spiritual, temporal, and eternal. The only way that we can escape such judgment is through Jesus Christ who redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us (Galatians 3:13).
