1. Galatians 3:16 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What promises did God speak to Abraham and his seed?

Galatians 3:16 (ESV)

16 Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, “And to your offspring,” who is Christ.

God’s promises to Abraham included land, people, and blessing (Genesis 12:1–3; Genesis 15:1–5; Genesis 17:4–8; Genesis 18:18; Genesis 22:17–18; Genesis 26:4).1 The promise was not limited to physical descendants, land on earth and prosperity in the here and now. Though all these concepts were included, God’s promise ultimately referred to life in God’s presence, life in the new creation (Hebrews 11:8–16).2
