1. Luke 2:30–32 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What is the salvation that God has prepared in the sight of all people?

Luke 2:30–32 (ESV)

30 for my eyes have seen your salvation

Simeon equates the arrival of Jesus with the advent of a new era of divine consolation.1 As such, the salvation in view refers to God’s deliverance of Israel from her enemies. In the context of the Gospel as a whole, this deliverance refers to the death of Jesus Christ where he pays the penalty for the sins of God’s people.
