1. Luke 2:30–32 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does it mean for the Christ to be a light for revelation to the Gentiles?

Luke 2:30–32 (ESV)

30 for my eyes have seen your salvation

Quoting directly from Isaiah (Isaiah 40:5; Isaiah 42:6, Isaiah 42:13; Isaiah 49:6; Isaiah 52:9–10), Simeon understands that the Christ is also the promised Servant.1 He comes not only to rescue God’s people from their sins and the judgment that sin deserves, but also to rescue the Gentiles. God’s salvation will extend to every racial group.2 Truth about who God is and what he has done will be shared with those who did not have it previously.
