For Jesus to be a sign that is spoken against means that he will be opposed (Luke 20:17–18; Romans 9:33; 1 Peter 2:6–8). Not everyone will submit to or recognize him as the Christ. His ministry and work will have much conflict1 and bring about division among the people of Israel.2 Identification with Jesus will result in persecution.3
