When the Galatians came to faith in Jesus Christ, they were set free from the need to earn God’s favour through their own law obedience (the covenant of works). They were also set free from the curse that their failure to obey God’s law deserved (see Galatians 3:13; Galatians 4:4–5).1
13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
