Paul is not talking about lapses, but habitual behaviour.1 His warning serves as a reminder to believers that those who belong to God must not use their freedom to indulge the sinful nature (Galatians 5:13), but to pursue works of love. Good works are a consequence of justification.2 Those who continue to live as they please without repentance or concern, thereby, show that they do not belong to God and do not have the Spirit.3
