Your sermon should emphasise that those who belong to Jesus Christ must seek to live in obedience to his commands. This is the main emphasis of Jesus in the concluding section of his sermon and thus it should also be the emphasis and goal of your sermon. Make sure that you do not give Christians the impression that our obedience will contribute to our salvation or form any part in earning God’s favour. We obey in response to the work that Christ has done, because we belong to him and have the Holy Spirit dwelling in our hearts.
