With these few words, the far reach of the praise for the Lord is indicated.
Everything that has breath
receives the call here to praise the Creator. First of all, this call goes out to the people. We, after all, have in a special way, received our breath of life from God (Genesis 2:7; Ecclesiastes 12:7).
But let us not forget that this God is the Creator of all life. All creation was made to bring praise to the Lord (Psalm 98:4–8; Psalm 148:7–13).
And one day, on the new earth and new heaven, all life will sound complete, without any dissonance, in a beautiful orchestral sound to the honour of the Lord.
Let this knowledge encourage us to already here, in our earthly life, wholeheartedly endorse the last word of this psalm: Praise the LORD
—Hallelujah!
6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!
