To turn the other cheek is to refuse to retaliate when you have been insulted. Instead of seeking vengeance and restoring your honour, the believer must seek to return good for the wrong that was done to him (Romans 12:17–21). This can only be done if the believer leaves vindication to God and trusts in his day of justice (Psalm 37:1–40; Romans 12:19). 1 Kingdom citizens need to be convinced of their status before God, so that they are willing to disperse with their own honour and seek the honour of God. 2
39 But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.
