  2. Application

One God in three persons: What does Matthew 5:38-48 reveal about who God is (Father)?

Matthew 5:38–48 (ESV)

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’

  • God is concerned for justice. He established laws to limit and prevent retaliation.

  • God is judge. Vengeance belongs to the Lord and his people must trust him to bring it in his time.

  • God is gracious. He sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. He does good toward those who do him evil.

  • God is perfect. There is no sin with God.

  • God is in heaven; he is transcendent above and beyond creation. He is outside of the world that he has made and not part of it (though he wills the world).
