Light is a common symbol in Scripture: God is light (Psalm 18:12; Psalm 104:2; 1 Timothy 6:16; 1 John 1:5); Christ is light (Matthew 4:16; John 1:7, John 1:9; John 8:12; John 9:5; John 12:46), and God’s people are light (Ephesians 5:8; 1 Thessalonians 5:5), drawing others to God through their actions (Isaiah 42:6; Isaiah 49:6; Isaiah 51:4; Philippians 2:15). 1 Kingdom people living in kingdom obedience will draw people to the kingdom as moths to a lamp (see 1 Peter 2:11–12). 2
