Jesus shows himself to be the decisive arbiter of the law’s meaning. 1 He reveals his authority and presents himself as the new and better Moses (see Deuteronomy 18:15, Deuteronomy 18:18). 2 There is also an implicit confirmation that he is the Messiah as he brings the judgment and Torah that was expected of the Messiah (see Isaiah 42:1–4; Numbers 24:17; Deuteronomy 18:18–19; Isaiah 52:7; Isaiah 61:2–3; Daniel 9:25; John 4:25). 3
