What is remarkable about the words “stand firm in it”?

1 Peter 5:12 (ESV)

12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother as I regard him, I have written briefly to you, exhorting and declaring that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it.

The preposition it refers obviously to the true grace of God, which in turn encapsulates the thrust of Peter’s letter. With the word stand firm Peter now gives the command to embrace this true grace in such a way as to see it as foundational to your life. Once the worldview of being born again is settled in your mind, the rest of life falls into place. Yet owning that worldview is not a once-off exercise but a decision one needs to grasp time and again. As Peter’s readers get to the end of his letter, they need to make it their business (again) to treasure their reborn status with all its consequences in this life and the life to come.
