The Levite’s casual answer reveals his self-serving, materialistic motives: Micah has hired me, and I have become his priest.
This Levite does not care about his divine calling. His heart is not with the God of Israel, but with a man and his wallet. He admits he is a priest-for-hire. He does not even pretend that he has followed the Lord in his calling.
4 And he said to them, “This is how Micah dealt with me: he has hired me, and I have become his priest.”
