The psalms were given to us by God for singing (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16). They are not just meant for reading and studying, but they are meant to be sung and prayed by Christians, even today. Psalms are one of the means that God the Holy Spirit uses to reshape and change the desires of our heart so that we will desire the things that God wants us to desire.
Psalm 34
Peer pressure has a powerful influence on us because we naturally fear man more than God. We want to please the men and women around us. Psalm 34 encourages us to fear the Lord and testifies to the kind of work that we ought to pursue (works of love). This will be a good song to sing in its entirety, perhaps one section before your sermon (Psalm 34:1–10) and the other section thereafter (Psalm 34:11–22).
1 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
