In verse 12, Jerusalem had wondered "if there is any sorrow like my sorrow." Then, in verses 13 to 15, she described her great suffering under God’s burning wrath. Now it is as if she bursts out weeping, and the worst thing is that no one comforts her. For now, the hope of a restoration is far away. It is time only to mourn and weep for herself and her children.
16 “For these things I weep; my eyes flow with tears; for a comforter is far from me, one to revive my spirit; my children are desolate, for the enemy has prevailed.”
