What does the verb “vomited” signify?

Leviticus 18:25 (ESV)

25 and the land became unclean, so that I punished its iniquity, and the land vomited out its inhabitants.

This is an example of personification. The land is spoken of as having human qualities. In this instance, the land is pictured as a human being who finds such sexual practices so revolting that it is compelled to vomit people out of itself. This is repeated in Leviticus 18:28.
