  2. Application

One God in three persons: What does Matthew 6:5-15 reveal about what God does in me and through me (Holy Spirit)?

Matthew 6:5–15 (ESV)

5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.

  • God the Holy Spirit helps me to pray as a child of God rather than a hypocrite. He reminds me of what Jesus Christ has done and the fact that I enjoy God’s favour because of my union with Christ. He brings me to call God our Father and he changes my desires so that I increasingly want to please God instead of seeking the approval of men.

  • God the Holy Spirit also changes me as I pray. As I learn to put God’s agenda ahead of my own, I become increasingly content with my daily bread and eager to pursue works of righteousness. He also encourages/helps me to forgive those who have done me wrong.
