Why was the grass thrown into the fire?

Matthew 6:30 (ESV)

30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

Grass was collected as fuel to be used for burning in order to cook and prepare food.1 Since God clothes the grass, which has a short life, will he not just as surely provide clothing (care for) his adopted children who are of far greater value?2
