What does the term “murderers” refer to?

Revelation 22:15 (ESV)

15 Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

On the surface the term refers to transgressors of the sixth commandment, those who kill another. But on a deeper level, Scripture teaches that anyone who does not love his brother is guilty of murder (Matthew 5:21–26; 1 John 3:15). In his rage against the woman, the serpent conjured up assistants who would cause saints to be slain (Revelation 13:15). The murdering would happen through other people. Those thus aligned with the devil, perhaps despite their reputations in this life, would upon the Lord’s return find themselves outside.
