Earlier in the verse the Spirit and the Bride and the hearer all called upon Christ Jesus to come,
that is, to fulfill his promise to return to Earth at the end of the age (Matthew 24:30; see also Acts 1:11; Revelation 16:15). In the present case, however, it is not Christ who is called upon to come
(to earth) but the thirsty
must come.
Clearly, the destination implied in the latter come
is different than the destination of the former. In the present case the desired destination is Christ Jesus himself, the Giver of thirst-quenching water (Isaiah 55:1; John 7:37).
17 The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.
