In Eliphaz’ first speech, he had started by showing some sympathy for Job (Job 4:1–4). In both his first and second speeches, he limited himself to general statements about the wickedness of man (Job 4:17–21; Job 15:14–35). But his unflinching belief in the doctrine of retribution has gradually hardened his heart toward Job. He now attacks Job directly for Job’s abundant
wickedness and endless sins.
5 Is not your evil abundant? There is no end to your iniquities.
