Your sermon needs to correct some common erroneous interpretations of Matthew 7:7–12 and help God’s people to see how Jesus’ teaching connects with what he has said about treating fellow believers as family and letting go of critical attitudes. Explain why context is so important when interpreting and reading the Bible, and how context shapes our understanding of what Jesus says regarding prayer and the Golden Rule. Give examples of what the Golden Rule might look like in practice in your community. Encourage Christians to pray in accordance with God’s will and to do good in response to God’s grace.
