1. Matthew 7:21 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does it mean that only he who does the will of my Father in heaven will be allowed to enter the kingdom?

Matthew 7:21 (ESV)

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Those who belong to Jesus Christ will seek to submit to what he has taught regarding the will of the Father.1 These are the sheep for whom he gave his life (John 10:7–18); these are the ones who will enter the kingdom. False prophets and their followers do not submit to Christ and what he has taught. They have not entered by the narrow gate and thus they will not be allowed to enter the kingdom.
