God the Son is the Good Shepherd who gives his life for the sheep. He is concerned for God’s people. Through his obedience to God’s law and death on the cross, he has earned the right for sheep to dwell with God in the new creation and he has paid the penalty that sheep deserve for their sins. Only in his perfect seeking of, and obedience to, the will of the Father is their hope of salvation for sheep who trust in him. He bore the good fruit that God expects from his people.
