Matthew 6:19–24 (ESV)

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal,

In Psalm 73, the Psalmist sees someone who is wealthy and gives himself to procuring as many possessions as possible. That person has no interest in God’s will. He was very tempted himself to follow along the same path, but then he remembered that those who do not serve God as their master will perish in the judgement. This will be a good psalm to sing in response to your sermon.

As an alternative to Psalm 73, Psalm 49 also warns God’s people not to make the pursuit of wealth their aim. This will also be a good song to sing with your sermon, either before or after.
