The Levite and his concubine were apart for four months. The text does not say why the separation was for that length of time. It could be that the Levite was waiting for his concubine to make the first move, to return and say she is sorry. But he waits in vain.1 We cannot be sure. But if there is going to be a first move, he will have to be the one to make it.
2 And his concubine was unfaithful to him, and she went away from him to her father’s house at Bethlehem in Judah, and was there some four months.
