This verse tells us that all the people of Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, from the northern boundary to the southern boundary, came out, including the land of Gilead, east of the Jordan River. And not only did everyone come. But they came and assembled as one man
(see also Judges 20:8, Judges 20:11). The message announced by the concubine’s carved-up body achieved a remarkable unity in Israel! Not one of the judges in the entire book achieved a response of this magnitude! Not even Deborah and Barak had been able to mobilize the military resources of the nation to this extent.1 Unity has been so elusive! But now it is there.
1 Then all the people of Israel came out, from Dan to Beersheba, including the land of Gilead, and the congregation assembled as one man to the LORD at Mizpah.
