How does Israel fare this second time?

Judges 20:25 (ESV)

25 And Benjamin went against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed 18,000 men of the people of Israel. All these were men who drew the sword.

Israel’s numerical advantage still does not help. Benjamin destroys 18,000 Israelites swordsmen, or 4.8 percent of the remaining 378,000 Israelite fighting force. This is almost as many casualties as in the first encounter.1 In total they have now lost 40,000 people, one-tenth of their total army.
